Founding Artist Edition: Ikaro Cavalcante ✹
Mint Fund supports LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC artist commissions at Gemma.
We’re excited to announce that Gemma is partnering with Mint Fund to distribute $25,000 to BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ artists. Since launching in February 2021, Mint Fund has supported hundreds of artists—many of whom now have sustainable careers selling their digital artworks in web3. Brazilian artist Ikaro Cavalcante, known online as Occulted, credits Mint Fund for playing a significant role in their early success, helping them find a supportive community in the web3 space.
In their newly commissioned artwork for Gemma, titled Absorption, Ikaro uses vibrant colors and abstracted layers of blurred, scratching effects to obscure renderings of a corpse flower. The work is available to mint now.
“I am trying to build layers up to create a profound effect. When I feel this sense of impact, that’s when I press the render button.”
— Ikaro Cavalcante
Ikaro Cavalcante (b. 1995, Brazil) is a renowned digital artist, known for their intricate and immersive artworks that explore the interplay between spirituality, nature, technology, and identity. Drawing inspiration from their childhood experiences in a culture heavily influenced by cyber cafes and LAN houses, Ikaro developed a deep fascination with the worlds of MMORPG games, which continues to shape their artistic vision. Immersed in the captivating landscapes of games like Mu Online, Priston Tale, and Diablo, Ikaro discovered the power of creating their own worlds and realized the potential for art to materialize dreams and evoke nostalgic sentiments. By merging the digital and natural worlds, Ikaro challenges us to question our perceptions and reevaluate the impact of technology on our lives.
Gemma is an emerging community co-inhabited by artists, curators, and contributors with a shared vision for how culture can shape our future.
